Michael grew up in Hawaii and he has a big time love of Kings Hawaiian Bread. I have not been much of a fan, finding it too sweet as a dinner roll. However, for many years I have longed for the New England style hot dog bun which are baked with the sides touching. The result is a split bun with flat sides, perfect for toasting. This style of bun is often used for lobster rolls. These buns just are not available on the West coast.
Until now. Kings Hawaiian bread just introduced hot dog buns in the style I have been looking for. I had to try them.
Not willing to risk pricey lobster on this experiment, I opted for an Angus beef hot dog, microwaved. This test was all about the bun. I buttered the sides and toasted the bread over a low heat on a griddle pan. I plopped my microwaved dog into the toasted bun, squirted on some yellow mustard, slapped on some relish and I was ready to give it a try.
Oh my. OH. MY. This did not disappoint at all. It was not as sweet as the regular King’s Hawaiian bread and the toasting took it over the top. I liked it so much I don’t think I would buy regular buns again if these were available. Next time I will will risk it all and make lobster rolls. These were that good.

I love King’s Hawaiian (Original Hawaiian Sweet Round Bread) with Spinach dip! yummy! Tear out the middle of the round bread and place in a bowl of dip….. Tear up the middle that you pulled out, into bite size pieces. Umm umm good!
